Welcome to all new and continuing players. Brighton had a fantastic year in 2009 winning 5 out of 8 premierships with the B Grade, C Grade, U18s, U16s Sunday and U14s Sunday teams all being successful. I am confident that we have the coaching staff, talent pool and focus to match this success in 2010 and I am looking forward to a very exciting year.
I am pleased to announce that the Club has been successful in securing a grant from the Office for Recreation and Sport for $30,000 and a grant from the City of Holdfast Bay for $20,000 to go towards the replacement of our oval lights. We are awaiting the outcome of applications we have submitted to the SANFL and AFL for a further $15,000. If successful, we will be well on our way of reaching our target of $100,000. To help push us along further the Committee is busy, with the help of Paula Dickson (Sports and Recreation Management student from UniSA), applying for tax deductibility status from the Australian Sports Foundation. If successful, this will mean that the Club can receive donations from individuals that are tax deductible for the donor. I will keep you posted. I would like to publicly acknowledge both John Smith and Kym Steer for their help in drafting the submissions.
In other exciting news, the Club has come into the 21st century, with the help of Dan Lunniss who has developed a Brighton Football Club website which can be accessed at: www.brightonfc.com, In addition to this, Alex and Adam have given the Club a presence on Facebook. I strongly encourage you to bookmark the website as a favourite and to become a friend of the Club on Facebook. The sites will be regularly updated with photos, social events, team lists and player stats.
This year the Club is having its official season launch on Thursday 8 April from 7.00 pm at the Club rooms. All parents and players are encouraged to attend so put the date in your diaries. There are also many other social events scheduled for the year including a Quiz night (we promise the questions will be much easier this year), a 200 club, Ladies day and much more.
Brighton Bombers sees itself as a family friendly club and I strongly encourage you to get involved, whether it be as a social member and/or a volunteer. Please consider how you can best contribute to your child’s participation. I would be happy to hear from anyone who is willing to help - without it the club cannot prosper.
I hope the information provided here will help answer some of the questions your may have regarding the season however, if you have any further concerns or questions please feel free to contact either myself or any of the committee members.
Once again welcome to Season 2010.
Steve Phillips President
1. Fees
Fees for the 2010 season have been set as follows:
This year the club has moved to an online payment system that we hope will be easier for all concerned. The site can be accessed by logging on to: www.brightonfc.com and clicking on the Online Payments link. Players will still be required to complete a Registration and Medical form, available on registration nights from the Club or the team coach. For those players/parents who do not have access to a computer or are unsure how to proceed, computers will be set up at the Club on registration nights and help will be on hand.
Senior and Saturday junior fees are to be paid before the third game of the season. Sunday fees should be paid prior to the commencement of the first game. If a player has not paid by the required date they will be ineligible to play. If you have difficulty in meeting these requirements please contact the President, Treasurer or Sunday Coordinator to discuss the matter. All communication will be treated in confidence.
2. Club Membership
The Club has two types of memberships, playing membership and social membership. Players automatically become financial members of the club once their fees are paid. The second category of membership is a social membership and costs $20 per year. Membership includes a lucky number membership draw, which is drawn immediately after Presentations throughout the footy season (every Saturday night for Saturday playing teams + C Grade and every Friday night for Sunday playing teams). Benefits also include voting rights at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the Sports and Social Club’s AGM. By becoming a social member you will be supporting the club and helping to secure its future.
3. Registration Nights and Official Launch
There will be three registration nights for the Seniors and Juniors which will be held on Thursday 11, 18 and 25 March from 6 – 7.30 pm.
Sunday teams registration night will be held on Friday 12 March 2010.
4. Social Dates for your Diary
The Club organises a number of social functions throughout the year. It is a great way to come and meet other members of the Club, not to mention contribute to the fundraising for our lights project. Meals are available at the Clubrooms on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 6.30 pm onwards. Prices are very reasonable ranging from $10 - $15 and the food is very good.
Other major events for the year include:
Event Date Official Season Launch 8 April – 7.00 pm for 7.30 pm start Sponsors Day 8 May 200 Club 15 May Ladies Night 4 June Past Players Day 19 June Quiz Night 10 July Ladies Day 24 July
Past similar events have been a lot of fun so please put them in your diary. Further information will be available on the website and at the club.
5. Player Uniforms
Guernseys: All players will be supplied with a guernsey by the Club. All other equipment is the players’ responsibility.
Shorts, boots and socks: The Southern Football League has negotiated a sponsorship agreement with Sportspower at Glenelg who are able to supply SFL logo shorts and socks at competitive prices. It is the expectation of the League that any newly purchased shorts or socks should have the SFL logo.
Mouth Guards: It is essential that players wear a suitable mouth guard. Mouth guards can either be purchased from a chemist or a mouth guard specialist such as Performance Mouthguards, who can be contacted on 8376 5144.
6 Trainers
The SFL requires that each team provide two trainers/first aid qualified support people at each game. As such, there is an ongoing need in the Club for trainers and qualified first aid people. In the past the club has been fortunate to have the services of some very dedicated people but it is always seeking to recruit new people to these roles.
This is a great way to become involved in the sport. If you are interested in working as a trainer but do not have the required qualifications the Club will arrange and pay for you to undergo the appropriate training.
Please contact Steve Phillips if you are interested.
7. Heat Policy
All coaches will be given the SFL Policy on Heat Management and Clubs will be expected to comply. The Head Trainer at each club is responsible for ensuring the policy, which applies to practice matches as well, is complied with.
The Policy states in part: “If the forecast temperature in the Advertiser on the morning of the game is between 32 and below 36 degrees, two minute breaks at the mid point of each quarter will be called, to allow drinks to be taken.”
8. Parent Participation/Volunteers
There are no paid officials at the Brighton Bombers Footy Club. It is a club run by volunteers whose main focus is the playing of competitive and entertaining football.
The Club relies on the participation of parents for this to be successful. If your are interested in becoming an active member of the club we are seeking volunteers for the following positions across all grade levels:
He/she is responsible for the administration of the Team. This includes gathering voting slips and filling out team sheets. It is not an onerous task and support will be readily available (especially during the ‘learning’ period).
He/she is responsible for recording players (from both teams) coming on/off the field. It is a very simple task, allows you to get close to the action and helps to ensure that no team inadvertently puts more than 18 players on the ground.
Without this person, the game doesn’t happen.
This position is self-explanatory. He/she usually gets the best view of the game.
The SFL only provides Central Umpires for the junior matches. Therefore we have to rely on the players to do these duties. In the past the 14’s have had to provide boundary and water for their own game and then provide the same for the 16’s. The 16’s provide boundary/water for the 18’s and the 18’s for the B’s. The B’s provide water for the A’s (and gate keeping at home games).
We are looking at ways of changing this arrangement to avoid the 14’s copping the double. However, at the moment, boys will be expected to do both games. If all the boys contribute it will spread the workload.
The club relies heavily on money raised through the BBQ and canteen. If you are available to work either on a one-off or regular basis, for one or two hours, in the canteen or on the bbq your help would be gratefully appreciated. We also require volunteers to help at the Bunnings BBQ tent in March and April. If you can spare some time please contact Steve Phillips on 0412 953 158 or via email at - rsphil@bigpond.net.au. It was the first premiership for Danny Byrnes after around 800 games for BDOS.......... The Team beat Flinders Park in the GF by around 6 goals...... Winning Side: Joel Tucker, Duncan Draper, Danny Byrnes, Adam Waye, Todd Johnstone, Dion Draper, Damian Nicholls, Aish Simper, Justin Sadomka, Clint Godwin & Matthew Trowbridge Congratulations to all, we look forward to seeing everyone at the club this year!
Jan 19, 2010, 1:26 pm The Brighton Football club is pleased to announce the acquisition of a $30k grant from the Department of Sport & Recreation.
This grant not only symbolizes and acknowledges the appreciation the Department of Sports & Rec has for the services provided by the Brighton Football Club to the greater Holdfast Bay Community but also demonstrates the confidence the department has that these essential services will continue long into the future.
This additional funding now gives the Brighton-on-lights project, the added support and credibility it required and lays the pathway for future support from the local community, in particular the Holdfast Bay Council.
While there is still substantial work to be done, with the estimated cost of the project currently sitting at $103k. The Brighton Football Club and the Brighton-on-lights committee have great faith in the strong member base and loyal BFC supporters to get the job done.
If you feel you can assist this project or would like to help the Brighton Football Club in anyway please feel free to contact club president Steve Philips on the details listed below. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Players: jolly Nov 20, 2009, 1:18 am The Brighton Football Club has a long tradition of producing formidable junior teams, with many of our players going on to forge successful careers at local, state and national level. For this reason, The Brighton Football Club has always sought to show faith in the talent the club naturally produces and attracts rather than rely on recruiting to achieve results. 2010 is no exception. While there have been some additions in player stocks, this is largely due to the fantastic reputation the club has for being successful & hard working while also providing an atmosphere in which players can really enjoy their football playing amongst their mates.
The Brighton Football Club playing group would like to welcome the following players to/back to the club for the 2010 Season:
Crowd favourite and lovable larrikin Craig Statham will return to the club for season 2010 after a stint with country side Kingston in the south East. Craig is an experienced and hard working player who will provide great drive and strength on which ever line he plays. We welcome Craig back to the club. Hard nosed midfielder and fitness machine Chad Norsworthy will be joining the club in 2010. Chad trained with the squad during a majority of the pre-season last year, and with another fantastic pre-season under his belt will provide great run and carry through the midfield. Armed with sharp skills he is a fantastic addition. Chad has played for both South Adelaide and Central Districts before country side Willaston. After the retirement of Randall 'Juice' Lindsay at the conclusion of the 2009 season, the club was on the look out for a tall to assist the Hardworking Ben Brookman and Fast developing Will Michalanney in the Senior ruck division. Nathan Twomey comes from a fantastic background having played at South Adelaide, before Nairne. Nathan will not only provide great assistance in the ruck division but also provide a fantastic target up forward. A Promising junior, Mitch Vickers was part of the Undefeated 2003 Brighton Under 16's side. Mitch like many others from the side went on the play the following years at SANFL junior level. Following a stint at Tailem Bend Mitch has decided to return to his roots and will be a valuable addition to the Senior squad. To view the profiles of these players or any other Brighton Bombers senior squad member, please visit the 'statistics' page located in the left hand menu. You will need to create a user profile in order to view the player profiles in their entirety. The Brighton Football Club welcomes all players, new and current back to the club for the 2010 season. We look forward to continuing the clubs successful tradition and continued development at all levels. Go you bombers!
